Sewepagaham‘s debut solo album Splashing the Water Loudly, was released in October 2014. Co-produced with jazz pianist Chris Andrew, member of the Hutchinson Andrew Trio and winners of the 2013 Montreal Jazz Festival’s TD Grand Jazz Award, the album features the elements of chant vocals, jazz piano, Aboriginal rhythms fused with Cuban percussion, soaring cello and soulful harmonies and a spicy duet with Juno-nominated Wayne Lavallee. The thoughtfully-composed songs place one foot in Sewepagaham’s First Nations roots and the other in the contemporary Western world. The album’s Cree lyrics expose her heart, her vision, and a quiet, activism for her people. Select songs from the album can be heard on APTN’s Chaos & Courage documentary series’ second season.
