Our music series RPM Live launched last week with Mob Bounce and DJ NDN (of A Tribe Called Red) blowing the roof off the Burdock Music Hall in Toronto. Get the low-down on what the night entailed, and get ready for RPM Live : 002!
Last week RPM Live : 001 kicked off a sold-out show with more Indigenous music lovers waiting at the door in hopes of slipping in to catch Mob Bounce and DJ NDN turn Bloor Street’s hottest new music venue out.
As the room began to fill up, the night opened with Susan Blight playing some selections to set the mood. At show time, RPM’s Jarrett Martineau and Christa Couture introduced the series and all of RPM’s contributors, collaborators, and friends. Leanne Betasamosake Simpson (one of RPM’s first artists on RPM Records) gave an acknowledgement for the traditional caretakers of the land before Mob Bounce hit the stage.
Performing music from their latest album Mob Medicine, with special guest Jeremy Dutcher, Heebz the Earthchild and the Northwest Kid worked their set with power, leaving the audience wanting more.
DJ NDN jumped in with the good beats that had everyone working up a sweat for the rest of the night. Generously playing past his set time, DJ NDN closed the night out with a round dance, bringing everyone together in gratitude for all the good vibes.
