DJ Kookum drops an hour-long, all-female artist mix for IWD 2017.
A veteran of the west coast Indigenous music scene, Vancouver-based Dene/Cree turntablist, DJ, and remixer DJ Kookum (Cold Lake First Nations and Alexis Dakota Sioux Nation) is known for lighting up dance floors with her original blend of EDM, trap, moombahton, hip-hop and bass music.
For this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day, she brings us an amazing, hour-long Matriart Mixtape of hip-hop, R&B, EDM, and all-female artistry, featuring Indigenous artists like Inez Jasper, Princess Nokia, Dani and Lizzy, Niska Napolean, Numinous, T-Rhyme, Kinnie Starr, and Eekwol, and classic jams from the likes of Aaliyah, Salt-n-Pepa, Queen Latifah, RiRi and Beyonce.
Get down and get out in the streets to celebrate all that our sisters, mothers, aunties, and kookums give us each and every day.
Decolonize your playlist. Rematriate your life.
